Artificial turf from Amber
Water restrictions, environmental awareness and a growing reluctance in homeowners to spend valuable leisure-time on home maintenance has led to the development of a completely new outdoor surface.
A leading flooring specialist, Amber, has extended its expertise to encompass environmentally friendly grass.
Called Enviro Grass, this new artificial turf option offers six types of grass which are modelled on their natural counterparts – Buffalo, Kikuyu, Fescue, Bent, Couch and Rye.
Enviro Grass has all the verdant, soft, springy visual appeal of its natural counterpart yet makes a significant contribution to the care of the planet - it requires no water and no chemicals. Enviro Grass also requires only minimal maintenance (an occasional sweep with a broom to remove any leaves or twigs).
Amber’s Enviro Grass has the options of varied blade widths, multiple yarn types and multiple colour mix.
This new generation, man-made grass closely resembles its natural counterpart but will maintain its lush good looks in brilliant sunshine, full-on shade and when used as a surround to a salt or chlorine pool.
It would not be attacked by army worms, it would not shrivel and die when there is an absence of rain and it can be used when there are pets in residence. And it would not give friction burns.
Manufactured from a combination of polyethylene and nylon the grass has a highly perforated latex backing – the perforations provide excellent drainage and aeration of the soil beneath.
The Australian manufacturers say that while the grass is soft and springy underfoot it is extremely tough and hardwearing – it will withstand harsh environmental conditions, wheeled traffic and pets.
In fact, the technology employed in the manufacture of the Fescue, Bent, Couch and Rye Enviro Grass ensures each blade has a memory so that even when a car has stood on the grass for a number of days or weeks, once the car is removed the flattened grass will be restored to its original shape.
Each one of the Enviro Grasses can be loose laid – on slopes, in large or small areas, around curves or fiddly bits – it is simply cut to fit, using a sharp blade, either by professionals or the DIYer.
The six types of grass on offer each have quite different characteristics. The Fescue Enviro Grass, for example, has a long pile with varied blade widths, two hues of green and multiple yarn types to closely imitate the natural Fescue. This grass is ideal for heavy traffic areas.
The Rye Enviro Grass gives a totally different visual appeal being a manicured dense pile with a triple mix yarn composition, a complex combination of blade lengths and colours to closely imitate the real thing. Rye is also suitable for very heavy traffic areas.
Enviro Grass is available exclusively from all Amber outlets throughout NSW and ACT. Rolls come in 1.22, 1.83 and 3.66 metre widths – trained Amber consultants will advise on exactly how much grass is required when presented with measurements or plans.
