SA Water wanted the construction of their new headquarters to reflect their heritage and unique story and chose to accomplish this with an eye catching acrylic display, created by Frost* Design and Hassel.
Some ambitious goals were set for the new headquarters by commercial builder, Hansen Yuncken, including replacing old and outdated offices and laboratory areas, and ensuring that environmental criteria were met. The project was completed to comply with the environmental standards of the GBCA (Green Building Council Australia) and has achieved a 5 star ABGR (Australian Building Greenhouse Rating).
Managing director at Allplastics Engineering , Vic Kalloghlian, said that there are many advantages to using acrylics. Acrylic is durable, can be cut or bent into a variety of shapes, and is available in a range of colours. It also offers many safety factors compared with glass.
The acrylic display at the SA Water headquarters uses special cast 50mm diameter clear acrylic rods to chronicle the company history. The transparent acrylic rods feature SA Water’s landmark historical achievements. Acrylic was also used for other interior applications, such as colourful detailing, custom made Perspex foyer numbering and pictograms with unique colour combinations for each of the floors.
The SA Water headquarters was recently awarded the 2009 South Australian AIB, Ecological and Sustainable Development award for commercial construction
Allplastics Engineering in Sydney fabricated and supplied the acrylics for the SA Water headquarters in Adelaide, which was installed by Claude Neon.
