DraftStoppa TopHat – energy saving exhaust fan
The DraftStoppa TopHat, from AdvantecAustralasia , is an exhaust fan integrating the award winning DraftStoppa exhaust fan sealing mechanism into the newly developed fan housing.
The fan body has been designed to accept 150mm ducting allowing the unit to have full flow to the outside, which eliminates back pressure to the fan. This has been developed in response to the changes in building regulations throughout Victoria.
The advantage of this product is that it is totally self sealing and can be installed from below without entering the roof space. The mechanism itself consumes next to no energy and is simple in design with fewer moving parts.
Gary Griffith, Business Development Manager, says, "The company estimates savings of up to 30% off heating and cooling costs in a room, if the room has a DraftStoppa TopHat fan, which translates directly into power savings. The concept of this new development was a natural progression from the DraftStoppa which has led to an all-in-one fan using the same design principle.
"The unique combination of the grill and fan body aerodynamics results in optimum airflow characteristics and low energy use."
There are two mechanical designs for the unit. The first is for the grille and the second is the fan body. The VorTecs grille is unique, combining elegant good looks with energy efficiency. The grille begins "turning" the air making the fan motor more energy efficient.
The fan body design integrates the DraftStoppa exhaust fan sealing mechanism. When the fan is turned on, the flaps lift to release steam and condensation from the room. Turn it off and the flaps close under their own weight to automatically seal it from the roof, preventing warm air escaping from or cool air entering through the roof.
A real advantage of the DraftStoppa TopHat is that polluted air or cooking smells are prevented from entering other parts of the home or workplace. Another bonus of this exhaust fan product is that the energy-saving fan reduces energy cost year round as well as helping to keep out vermin, dust and odours.
