Stockland has selected Todae Solar and Canadian Solar to install a
1.22MW rooftop solar power system on Stockland Shellharbour Shopping Centre in
the Illawarra region of New South Wales. Once completed, the installation will
be Australia’s largest single building rooftop solar system and one of the top
10 largest installed across the country.
Stockland Regional Retail Manager for NSW South, Daniel Buchanan said
that the latest initiative follows the completion of their $330 million
redevelopment of Stockland Shellharbour in 2013 and receiving a 4 Star Green
Star rating by the Green Building Council of Australia.
Stockland has been considering large scale solar for some time now,
having installed a number of smaller solar PV systems.
Currently under construction, the new solar power system is expected to
be fully operational by the end of May 2015. The system comprises of 3991 photovoltaic
panels and is expected to generate an average 4,789 kilowatt hours (kWh) per
day, enough to power 280 homes. The system is expected to generate sufficient
renewable energy to offset approximately 1,700 tonnes of CO2 annually, contributing
towards Stockland’s target of 1.35MW of installed renewable energy capacity in
the shopping centre portfolio by FY17.
Todae Solar CEO Danin Kahn described their selection for the prestigious
and record-breaking solar project as a great honour for the company. He added
that it also showcases Todae Solar’s experience and capability in delivering
large-scale solar projects of the highest quality. He is confident the project
will encourage many other organisations in Australia to consider solar for
their facilities.
